THOMAS SQUIRE b 1719
EMMIGRATION to CANADA 1880'sPerhaps it's no mystery why HENRY THOMAS SQUIRE & wife MARY ANN PACE of BENTLEY chose LETHBRIDGE as their destination in Canada. Their nephew, CHARLES VICARAGE PACE, my grandfather, visited them in ALBERTA in the 1890's. CHARLES may have come out to Canada with his sister MARY ANN who had married SAMUEL WILLIAM HAYNES at Pelsall, Staffordshire in 1891. CHARLES returned to Staffordshire and married ANNIE ARCH in 1898. His aunt and uncle also returned to England for a short time convincing other SQUIRE and PACE relatives to emigrate to CANADA. HENRY SQUIRE & wife and others returned to CANADA including brother JAMES LANE SQUIRE and wife EMILY nee PACE and brother JOSHUA PACE and I believe, THOMAS H. SQUIRE settling at NORWOOD, Ontario and another brother who went to VIRGINIA. SQUIRES operated flour mills and general stores, Norwood, Havelock, Queensville. J.L.SQUIRE became Justice of the Peace and School Board Trustee. They were active in the Methodist Church. EDWARDEDWARD "TEDDY" PACE, brother of CHARLES VICARAGE PACE, came to Canada in the 1930's and operated a general store at nearby CORDOVA MINES. "TEDDY" PACE and friend Mr. BUCHANNAN of HAVELOCK were both traveling salesmen for a time. BUCHANNAN later operated a store at Havelock. EDWARD PACE is buried at HAVELOCK, Ontario. CV PACE buried at LETHBRIDGE. Many others of local SQUIRE-PACE related families are buried at NORWOOD. See MEMORIAL at right. It is likely JAMES LANE SQUIRE and his siblings were also PACE descendents. Their mother, MARY LANE is thought to be ELIZA LANE Chr 11 JUL 1819 Saint Michael, LITCHFIELD Father: JOSEPH LANE Mother: MARY PACE - this is not absolutely known at this time. MARY PACE was an older sister of JOSHUA PACE - father of the wives of two SQUIRE brothers who married PACE sisters. - GTPACE - Brighton/Colborne Ontario Canada

EDWARD "Teddy" PACE 1873-1958a prize gardener and often a judge in county fairs in England, - says RON PACE of WALSALL UK. He probably came to HAVELOCK, Ontario in the 1930s and was my aunts favourite uncle. A travelling salesman, he sold hardware, possibly helped make HENRY SQUIRE & Son, can openers popular in Canada. Later, ran a General Store at CORDOVA MINES, Ontario, when gold was mined there, remembered by IDA CHARD of CORDOVA MINES, ONTARIO. HAVELOCK town hall staff remember Ted Pace, at 17 Quebec Street, Havelock.Ted married three times, one wife being 26 years his younger, caused a "falling out" with family in England, he left, coming to Canada. His uncle JOSHUA, aunts EMILY and MARY ANN had married SQUIRE brothers, above, had prieviously emmigrated. His last wife, said by Harold Hunter, Havelock historian, to have been KATY ANDERSON. Ted and wife are buried at Havelock. A step-son - Jim PACE - son of Edward's wife's sister, was brought up in their household. |
