Service Record: Enlisted in Company I, 54th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 10 March 1863. Enlisted as a Private on 10 June 1863 in Polk Co., NC at the age of 23. POW on 07 November 1863 at Rappahannock Station, VA. Confined on 11 November 1863 at Point Lookout, MD. Paroled on 16 March 1864 at Point Lookout, MD. Exchanged on 20 March 1864 at City Point, VA. POW on 21 October 1864 at Strasburg, VA. Confined on 01 November 1864 at Point Lookout, MD. Took Oath of Allegiance on 17 June 1865 at Point Lookout, MD. He was son of Jonathan & Susanna PACE; grandson of Burrell & Lydia PACE. However, it appears there were two (2) men named John C. PACE during this time. In the estate records for Jonathan PACE filed in Mar 1870. The son is mentioned as "...John C. Pace, deceased..." AND John C. PACE is named as one of the executors of the estate. Published in 1993
