Subject: [PACE-L] Amelia,Va record for Burge and Pace Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 From: "Dell Loughead" - idell@nemr.net To: PACE-L@rootsweb.com I am a Burge searcher, decendant of the THOMAS BURGE, whose will is in Bruce Howards "Colonial Ancestors" the THOS. BURGE mentioned in the article below, from Amelia, Va Order Book 1764-65, is a son of the THOMAS BURGE, whose will of 1752, Prince George, Va. Three of Thomas Burges' sons died in Amelia, Va btw 1760-1770. They were the THOMAS mentioned below and WILLIAM Burge and RICHARD Burge. All brothers of the SARAH Burge believed to have married JOHN PACE Can anyone identify the John & Wm Pace in Amelia,Va??? Amelia,Va Order Book 1764-1765 p 266:(f'd in Valentine Papers,Vol1 p 344 under Crenshaw:Amelia County: "Robert Crenshaw appt surveyor of the road from Pains Shop to Nottoway Bridge, and that Wm Pace, John Pace, Richard Crute, MRs Hholland, Wm Sneed, Wm Crenshaww, Sr,Wm Crenshaw,Jr, Thos Burge, Henry Buford, Sam'l Smith, Charles Irby to attend the sd road surveyor when required in order to clear and keep the sd road in repair." 1751 Francis Pace wit Tho Burge will THOMAS BURGE In his will of 1751, Prince George, VA., a FRANCIS PACE witnessed, named his first son John, believe to be the name of his father. He named his second son Richard, could that be after a Richard Pace??? Second sons in those days were often named after the wife's father. Just speculation!!!??? Thomas Burge's son Richard died in Amelia, VA1760 leaving sons Richard, William, Jeremiah and Burrell Burge. The sons Richard, Jeremiah & Burrell all died in Fairfield Co., SC 1797=1801 but all left records in Nash Co., NC. With the son Richard's son Richard marrying Amy BYRD in Wake, NC. Richard/Byrd's son Richard married Nancy MASSEY in Rutherford, TN and his children ended in Ark. Jim Pace's descendants of John Pace/Sarah Burge was very helpful-Thanks again Jim.)showing some grandchildren of John/Sarah dying in Clark Co., AL ties in with another unplaced BURGE, Wooden M. who was born in SC married and divorced and married 2nd in Wythe Co., VA to Phebe NEWLAND 1798. This Wooden M Burge is found in the 1850c/s of Marengo, AL with son Henry W Burge in Clark, AL. This Wooden M Burge has a tenuous connection to the POPE family. He was security for Trippe Pope married Neacy Ann Wiggins in 1829 Marengo, AL. Wooden was also witness for Isabelle Wiggins when she applied for pension, so perhaps his connection was to Wiggins not Pope??? Since Wooden M Burge was born in SC have assumed he was related thru Thomas Burge's son Richard but, truthfully he could belong to his son John or Thomas of which I know very little about. Have I confused everyone?? Any additional information regarding the children of John/Sarah or any Pace connection/information to the Burge family will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to those who took the time to respond. E - MAIL "Dell Loughead" - idell@nemr.net |
